We felt the need for more help than was provided by the hospital, and we couldn’t put up with three, four, five people a day coming in.’
While Ron was recovering from open heart surgery, hospital helpers were visiting the home to do various tasks. He and his wife Jan found this disruptive and unsettling, because the people were always coming and going.
“Good Friends just nullified all the previous problems. I describe them as an essential service for the community. Getting help from people who are experienced in the field makes a big, big difference,” said Ron.
Both Ron and Jan have a level of dementia, which was adding to the daily challenges around the house. Now they have the services of Steve, a versatile helper who’s willing to do whatever it takes, including keeping spirits up.
“Steve can adapt to various situations very quickly. His ability is exemplary really. He can talk cars, he can talk gardening, he can mow the lawns. And the jobs we need doing are done perfectly.”
Instead of having to downsize their home or move into care, Ron and Jan are happy to stay put for now, assisted by Arvida Good Friends.
“I think we’ll be able to have a good future in our own home for perhaps two or three years, doing the things we want to do.”
